Brohawn Receives Award for Teaching Excellence

Brohawn Receives Award for Teaching ExcellenceJune 9, 2009, Easton, MD -- Saints Peter and Paul High School Social Studies teacher Steven Brohawn was presented the Award for Teaching Excellence at the school’s recent Academic and Service Awards Banquet.  Brohawn, who has taught at Saints Peter and Paul High School since 2003 was described by principal James Nemeth as “a teacher of great innovation possessive of an encyclopedic knowledge.”

Nemeth quoted one student as saying, “I can always walk into Mr. Brohawn’s class knowing that I’ll walk out knowing much more than I did when I entered.”  Nemeth further described Brohawn as “someone who works hard to reach all students and genuinely cares about each one of them, and as someone who has earned the respect of his students for the respect he shows them.”

The Saints Peter and Paul Award for Teaching Excellence recognizes faculty members who go above and beyond the role of teaching, who engage students in and out of the classroom, who seek change in themselves as a means of becoming a better teacher, and who strive to be a fitting role model to the values of Catholic education.  Mr. Brohawn serves as Social Studies department chair, Advanced Placement teacher, Middle States Action Team Chair, and is Advisor to the Drama Club.  He also works with the monthly Benedictine School ministry trips, chairs the Scheduling Committee and has been instrumental in revising and expanding the Social Studies department curriculum to better meet students’ needs.
