Students Participate in E-Congress

Students Participate in E-CongressMay 18, 2009, Easton, MD -- Saints Peter and Paul High School students in United States Government and Honors United States Government classes participated this winter in E-Congress, an online legislative simulation run by the University of Virginia’s Youth Leadership Initiative.  Students researched topics of interest and wrote “bills” on those topics.  The bills created by SSPP students were reviewed by students in other high schools around the nation while SSPP students reviewed bills from other schools in a “committee” session.  In the final phase, all students across the country voted on those bills approved by committees.

The following Saints Peter and Paul High School students submitted bills that passed the final phase: Cody Clough - Funding for the Average Family 2009; Elizabeth Grieves - Bailout Assistance: Capping Salaries; Kaylyn Hickman - Increasing the Workforce during the Economic Crisis; Sebastian Kremer - The “pay what you see” bill; Kelsey Ross - Women’s Rights; Katherine Windsor - Healthy environment for our children act

This is the fifth year Saints Peter and Paul High School has participated in the program under the direction of Government Teacher Steven Brohawn.  Each year at least one Saints Peter and Paul student bill has been approved by the nationwide group of students.
